I would assume that my high school career was much like many others. I didn't care much about studying but was very interested in cars and girls. As a result, I was admitted to Friends University on scholastic probation. In 1968 I married my high school sweetheart, Jane Schott, class of 67. After graduating from Friends we moved to KC to attend Seminary. From 71-74 I served churches in Topeka and Colorado as Youth Pastor. In 1974 we accepted the invitation to serve as Senior Pastor of First Church of the Nazarene, Del City, Oklahoma. Both of our daughters were born while living there. In 1980 we moved to Independence, Kansas to serve the Church of the Nazarene there. We were there 8 years and it was a delightful time. 1n 1988 I was elected to an administrative position at our Denominational Headquarters. That was 2 of the longest years of my life. I realized that I wasn't called to be an administrator, but a pastor.
In 1990 we accepted the call to serve at Central Church of the Nazarene in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After three years there we were invited to serve as Senior Pastor at Denver First Church of the Nazarene, one of the flagship churches in our denomination. We were there for 16 wonderful years. (well, the last 4 weren't so great). I had the thrill of preaching to 2,000 folks every Sunday there and we had a television broadcast across the state as well. We "retired" in 2009.
Our daughers are both married, we sold the "big house" in the city and moved to our cabin in the mountains west of Colorado Springs.
Five grandchildren keep us buys. We love Colorado, riding our motorcycle and entertaining.
Oh, and I still preach too. I've been flying to Seattle every weekend for the past year filling in at a church there while they search for a pastor. Great fun.
Psalm 37 says "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."
He has.
Psalm 16 says, "The boundary lines for me have fallen in pleasant places."
They have.
